That's how many people we lose each year to traffic accidents involving alcohol. Some of those people will be great people, valuable people, people who were not themselves at fault. There also have to be pharmaceutical companies that develop more addictive substances and make them legal so they are in circulation in society. I was never an addict but I did use drugs back in the day. I think that part of the mentality of using drugs, whether you are addicted or not, is that you think you can get by without paying the price for something you do that is dangerous, damaging, neglectful of responsibilities. But it is never true. That price is exacted. It may only come out in your own decline of happiness but it is paid.
