Underage alcohol use is a sweeping problem with serious health and safety repercussions for the Nation. A substantial number of young people begin drinking before the age of 13, which frequently results in alcohol abuse or dependence. The highest prevalence of alcohol dependence is among people ages 18-20. The conclusion being that the impetus is on parents and people in the community to educate

The prospect of seeking treatment for your addiction can be daunting. You can never know what to expect. However, many people get help for their addictions everyday and the following is a success story from one such person that I hope will inspire others to make a change in their life and get the help they need:
"I feel like a new person today, then when I first arrived. My thinking has changed
Alcohol is ranked much more harmful than the Class A drug Ecstasy in a new classification system proposed by a team of leading scientists. The team identified three main factors that together determine the harm associated with any drug of potential abuse: the physical harm to the individual user caused by the drug; the tendency of the drug to induce dependence and addiction; and the effect of

It's bad enough that there are plant and chemical substances that are used as drugs, destroy people's lives and harm health and one's very ability to live. There also have to be pharmaceutical companies that develop more addictive substances and make them legal so they are in circulation in society. Then they promote them to doctors, concealing their addictiveness. Then they take a further step

I've been working at a rehab for about two years. People who become addicted to drugs or alcohol descend to such a terrible level. Bad health, bad relationships, destroyed finances, a past they don't want to remember and a future without hope. Sometimes people stop hoping for lifetime sobriety because they think they can't succeed. The give up. They go to rehab, they go to AA, they think they can't ever recover because they have failed in the past. The problem with a lot of programs is that they are bandaids on the problem or just a crazy approach. i don't know abotu you, but giving addictive drugs when you are trying to help somene

Some people put off getting help until they have done irreparable damage to their lives. It's so foolish. Help is available. But addiction is so compelling that some people can't acquire the objectivity to see that they need help. But families know. They usually know for a long time before the addicted person really hits bottom and decides they can't live this way any more. families matter a lot

Lucille was an elderly woman who came to the rehab where I work. She was 73 years old. I admired her greatly for taking on rehab in a center where many of the people were quite young. And I admired her for being willing to get her life together at no matter what age. She gamely did the entire program. At one point she got the flu real bad and she was out of sight for a couple of weeks. She

You want to know what the origin of a honeymoon was? Long ago, people used to make alcoholic beverages out of honey. When newly married people went off after the wedding, they drank this beverage to lower inhibitions so they could have a good time together. Kind of a funny story but the serious side of it is that it shows how alcohol can be a crutch. If you feel uncomfortable, you can use alcohol

The alcohol industry serves those who want to drink, obviously. And I really don't have an objection to some alcohol consumption. But realize that the bulk of alcohol is drunk by those with drinking problems. And then realize that underage drinkers constitute many millions of dollars of profit for alcoholic beverage companies. And realize that these companies go out of their way to entice
