The prospect of seeking treatment for your addiction can be daunting. You can never know what to expect. However, many people get help for their addictions everyday and the following is a success story from one such person that I hope will inspire others to make a change in their life and get the help they need:
"I feel like a new person today, then when I first arrived. My thinking has changed

A young man I know just flipped his truck while having a blood alcohol level way over the legal limit. He hurt a young girl in the process. It's all about your choices. Your choice to drink. Your choice to drive. Your choice to get distracted, to swerve then overcompensate. Your choice to be in no shape to drive but to drive anyway. Your choice to have a beautiful young girl as a passenger. We

Sometimes people stop hoping for lifetime sobriety because they think they can't succeed. The give up. They go to rehab, they go to AA, they think they can't ever recover because they have failed in the past. The problem with a lot of programs is that they are bandaids on the problem or just a crazy approach. i don't know abotu you, but giving addictive drugs when you are trying to help somene

So many people want help... I see the emails that come in to the rehab center where I work. So many people say I'm tired of this lifestyle, I want to stop using. I want to stop drinking. I want my family back. I want my happiness back. And it's tragic to think that many of those people won't get help. Real help can come from many places but some programs are better and more successful than

When you withdraw from heroin, you don't generally go into seizures that can kill you. But you can with alcohol. And alcohol is the legal one! That's just a weird quirk of this country.
I'm not really for making alcohol illegal. And I'm not for making illegal drugs legal either. What I am for is reducing demand by enabling people to live drug-free lifestyles. That means educating young people not

You want to know what the origin of a honeymoon was? Long ago, people used to make alcoholic beverages out of honey. When newly married people went off after the wedding, they drank this beverage to lower inhibitions so they could have a good time together. Kind of a funny story but the serious side of it is that it shows how alcohol can be a crutch. If you feel uncomfortable, you can use alcohol

Some people manage to live dangerously, drinking up a storm, and some don't. Some people die. Or go to jail. My former husband was a drinker and drove while drinking. He finally stopped drinking when he got terrified he was going to hurt someone while driving. A friend of mine was in a head on collision with a drunk driver. The drunk driver died. He survived. When a person drinks enough to be

Alcoholism can be a hidden addiction because it can hide behind social acceptability. Of course, the difference is that one's "drinking buddies" may be able to quit if they realize their lives are sliding but maybe one can't quit when one wants. Government agencies define alcohol abuse as when someone is using alcohol and it damage their life, the work, their social contacts, but they keep on

I was talking to a fellow the other day that had gone through the rehab I work at, and he had done the program for alcohol. He was such a bright and shiny person that I had a hard time seeing an alcoholic anywhere in that space. The same with a young woman who had been a pro soccer player. She was ruining herself with sitting at home drinking when she was not working. I have talked to many people

There are ifs in anyone's life. If this didn't happen, then...
If that didn't happen, then...
I think if I had not found a good reason to strive and survive at a young age, I could have been a drinker. I was headed that way. I'm lucky I found reasons to live and achieve goals. For someone who doesn't, life is grim enough that I can understand why they might not care enough to avoid substance
