Sometimes people stop hoping for lifetime sobriety because they think they can't succeed. The give up. They go to rehab, they go to AA, they think they can't ever recover because they have failed in the past. The problem with a lot of programs is that they are bandaids on the problem or just a crazy approach. i don't know abotu you, but giving addictive drugs when you are trying to help somene

When you withdraw from heroin, you don't generally go into seizures that can kill you. But you can with alcohol. And alcohol is the legal one! That's just a weird quirk of this country.

Some people manage to live dangerously, drinking up a storm, and some don't. Some people die. Or go to jail. My former husband was a drinker and drove while drinking.
