The prospect of seeking treatment for your addiction can be daunting. You can never know what to expect. However, many people get help for their addictions everyday and the following is a success story from one such person that I hope will inspire others to make a change in their life and get the help they need:
"I feel like a new person today, then when I first arrived. My thinking has changed
Alcohol is ranked much more harmful than the Class A drug Ecstasy in a new classification system proposed by a team of leading scientists. The team identified three main factors that together determine the harm associated with any drug of potential abuse: the physical harm to the individual user caused by the drug; the tendency of the drug to induce dependence and addiction; and the effect of

That's how many people we lose each year to traffic accidents involving alcohol. Some of those people will be great people, valuable people, people who were not themselves at fault. People who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. What could we do with these 13,000 people who died needlessly? Could we have more good teachers? More volunteers? More good fathers, fewer kids losing their

A young man I know just flipped his truck while having a blood alcohol level way over the legal limit. He hurt a young girl in the process. It's all about your choices. Your choice to drink. Your choice to drive. Your choice to get distracted, to swerve then overcompensate. Your choice to be in no shape to drive but to drive anyway. Your choice to have a beautiful young girl as a passenger. We

So many people want help... I see the emails that come in to the rehab center where I work. So many people say I'm tired of this lifestyle, I want to stop using. I want to stop drinking. I want my family back. I want my happiness back. And it's tragic to think that many of those people won't get help. Real help can come from many places but some programs are better and more successful than

Lucille was an elderly woman who came to the rehab where I work. She was 73 years old. I admired her greatly for taking on rehab in a center where many of the people were quite young. And I admired her for being willing to get her life together at no matter what age. She gamely did the entire program. At one point she got the flu real bad and she was out of sight for a couple of weeks. She

You want to know what the origin of a honeymoon was? Long ago, people used to make alcoholic beverages out of honey. When newly married people went off after the wedding, they drank this beverage to lower inhibitions so they could have a good time together. Kind of a funny story but the serious side of it is that it shows how alcohol can be a crutch. If you feel uncomfortable, you can use alcohol

One of the worst parts of addiction is the fact that is rather conceals itself. A person can be so convinced that it's necessary for them to continue to use their drug or alcohol of choice that life's meaning becomes getting more of your drug or kind of alcohol. And since they only feel normal when they have achieved their usual high, it's valuable to them to continue to get that high so they can
That's the double curse for some people who drink. They get drunk, they are in danger of accidents, alcohol poisoning, and risk from unprotected sex, assaults, and such, but as an added bonus, they can also get addicted. Alcohol is in a way a crueler addiction than heroin. First, it hides behind the legality of alcohol. You don't get arrested for being drunk unless you create a problem or you

The alcohol industry serves those who want to drink, obviously. And I really don't have an objection to some alcohol consumption. But realize that the bulk of alcohol is drunk by those with drinking problems. And then realize that underage drinkers constitute many millions of dollars of profit for alcoholic beverage companies. And realize that these companies go out of their way to entice
