Addicts and their future

When a person is addicted, there is no future. There is only keeping withdrawal symptoms at bay, or chasing that next high. When they are addicted, the use of drugs or alcohol seems to them to be the thing that makes them feel normal. It's hard for a person who has never been addicted to understand thoroughly. It's the only way they feel normal, it's as important to them as breathing or eating if they are starving. This is why they may neglect children, jobs, spouses and businesses. The only solution for many is rehab and for many who go to rehab, the only workable solution is long-term rehab.

I personally did so much damage not only to myself but to those around me. The lying, the stealing, the worrying...I can't imagine what my family must have gone through.
