Alcohol is different

When people get addicted to alcohol, it's different from most drugs. They have to withdraw gradually. Going cold turkey works for some drugs but when a person has been consuming too much alcohol for too long, then they have to taper off. It's kind of odd for me to think of a person going to a detox and getting given alcohol. But the body gets so adjusted to the alcohol that it can't detox too fast. A person can go into convulsions and even die. How cruel it is that a serious alcoholic has no choice but to keep drinking.
