I was never an addict but I did use drugs back in the day. I think that part of the mentality of using drugs, whether you are addicted or not, is that you think you can get by without paying the price for something you do that is dangerous, damaging, neglectful of responsibilities. But it is never true. That price is exacted. It may only come out in your own decline of happiness but it is paid. One of the tragic parts of addiction is that the drug use manages to blind you to the price you pay for your substance abuse and addiction. Desperation overrides it. If only this could be taught before people start using because afterwards, it may be too late.
